After nearly an hour of public comments regarding the matter, the Silver Lake City Council voted 3-2 to approve a 50 hour-per-week contract for police services with the McLeod County Sheriff’s Office at its meeting Monday, Aug. 17. Council members Nolan Johnson, Chris Penaz and Josh Winfrey voted for the resolution. Mayor Dorothy Butler and Councilor Brenda Fogarty cast the descending votes.
The 3-2 vote was the same division of the city council when it voted in July to disband the city’s police department and contract services with the sheriff’s office.
