In the years to come, Glencoe will slowly invest in the quality of its sidewalks and pedestrian ramps in the name of helping pedestrians get around the city easier.
Monday, Nov. 16, the city council unanimously approved, with no discussion, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan. The plan is a detailed approach to incrementally improving the easy walkability of city sidewalks and pedestrian ramps in the city.
Following the plan will help the city qualify for public funding for street projects. The city is eyeing about $1 million in funding for the East 10th Street overlay project, a $1.56 million project planned for next summer. It will include new sections of sidewalks, improved pedestrian ramps as well as sections of curb work.
The plan has been through a public hearing and public comment period. City Administrator Mark Larson said the city received no public input during the comment period.
