Paying off some of its debt while addressing compensation inequities with its staff compared to their counterparts in similar sized area cities, the Brownton City Council was able to set the 2022 property tax levy for its general fund 2 percent higher than this year.
Meeting Nov. 9, the city council approved a 2 percent increase for the general fund, well below the 5 percent increase in the preliminary levy earlier this fall. The increase means the city’s general fund levy will increase to $250,128 from $245,224. Overall, the city’s total budget will increase from $457,458 to $462,362.
